Sweden has a rich musical tradition, from medieval folkloric ballads to hip hop. Nordic music, pre-Christian faded with time, although there are historical re-creations based on instruments found in Viking sites. A rand worth more than a dollar at the time of its birth in 1961 until 1982, when political pressure combined with increased sanctions against the country because of apartheid started to erode its value.
